Next month, the North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA) will debut an exhibit celebrating Porsche’s history and legacy of racing victories. Entitled Porsche by Design: Seducing Speed, the exhibit will feature a wide range of both road and track-going Porsche models, ranging from the 1938 Type 64 Berlin-Rom Racer to a 1988 Porsche 959 to a 2010 Porsche 911 Sport. To promote the exhibit, NCMA has produced a series of videos highlighting some of the milestone automobiles in Porsche’s past.

The series of 10 videos includes interviews with Porsche historians, designers and other authorities on the marque, as well as a general overview of the cars to be exhibited and the key personnel behind them. There’s discussion of Porsche’s early history, as well as overviews of renowned racing Porsches, such as the 550 Spyder and the Type 904. A separate segment even delves into the “star cars,” such as the mural-painted Porsche 356 once owned by Janis Joplin, on loan to NCMA from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. One segment even explores the Porsche family tree, giving a thorough explanation of both Porsche and Piech family members, as well as the roles they played (and continue to play) within Porsche and its current parent, the Volkswagen Group.

Porsche by Design: Seducing Speed opens to the public on Saturday, October 12. For more information, visit NCArtMuseum.org.
